Ardent Group subsidiary Gaming1 has signed a new deal with CVC Capital Partners Fund VIII to finance future growth and bring new expertise to the business.

Gaming1 said it aims to become a global reference in regulated online gambling markets through the development of its own technology and unique omni-channel approach.

The Belgium-based online operator is currently active in nine countries around the world, including Portugal, France and the US, where it launched its Gamewise iGaming solution in partnership with Delaware North in July 2021.

Gaming1 said it wished to partner with a new shareholder capable of providing global, sector and digital expertise.

Existing shareholders Emmanuel Mewissen, Sylvain Boniver and Nicolas Léonard will continue as the operator’s reference shareholders, but will work alongside CVC once regulatory approvals are in place.

CVC manages some $125bn worth of assets across its network of 25 offices across the globe. Gaming1 said its established presence in the Belgian market will allow the operator to stick to its roots and continue to contribute to the development of the nation’s economy; a core element of the business’ mission.

Gaming1 also pointed out that CVC has prior experience in the gaming industry, through investments in German sports betting operator Tipico, Italian operator Sisal, which was recently acquired by Flutter Entertainment, and UK-based Sky Bet, among others.

Additional synergies between Gaming1 and CVC include experience in the digital space, including investments in mobile advertising and mobile gaming technology businesses.

Emmanuel Mewissen, CEO and founder of Ardent Group, said: “In a rapidly changing world, the key to success is adapting. By partnering with CVC, we will benefit from their global, sector and technology expertise, which will support our company to continue on our successful growth path and further build our digital capabilities.

“We will stay loyal to our values and Belgian roots as shown by our recent move to our digital hub in the heart of Liège. This desire to anchor ourselves in and to contribute to our country’s growth is an integral part of our identity and will continue to guide us daily.”
