Betsson has been granted a licence to launch online casino in Serbia.

The Stockholm-listed operator will enter the market with its Rizk online casino brand as it looks to drive growth through geographic expansion into new markets.

Serbia is part of the Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia (CEECA) segment for Betsson – a key strategic region for the company in recent years.

CEECA accounted for 43% of Betsson’s overall Q2 2023 revenue, providing the strongest growth of all geographic markets as revenue climbed 68% to €102.6m.

“I am proud to welcome Serbia as yet another locally regulated market for Betsson,” said Betsson AB CEO Pontus Lindwall.

“Our vision is to offer the best customer experience possible and through the brand Rizk we are now ready to deliver a best-in-class online casino offering in Serbia,” he added.

Gambling in Serbia

Gambling has been permitted in Serbia since 2006, while online gambling became legal in 2011, with a full regulatory regime introduced from 2013.

The market, which is regulated by the Serbian Games of Chance Administration, enforces a 10% GGR tax for online casino games and slots.

An online casino licence costs just €2,500 per month, according to Slotegrator.
