Catena Media has taken a significant step towards strengthening its presence in the North American and Latin American markets by establishing a content and commercial alliance with US sports publisher The Sporting News.

The newly signed partnership will run for three years and will see Catena Media create editorial and advertorial content as the exclusive betting partner to The Sporting News.

The agreement centres primarily on the US, where The Sporting News has a national presence and wide audience across multiple sports ranging from college sports, basketball and football to hockey, motorsports, golf, tennis and boxing.

Furthermore, the partnership extends its reach to selected Latin American countries, specifically Mexico, Argentina and Brazil.

By tapping into these markets, Catena Media aims to extend its footprint beyond North America, catering to the growing demand for online sports betting and casino gaming experiences in these regions.

Under the terms of the agreement, Catena Media will curate and deliver tailor-made digital content catering to sports, casino and fantasy sports aficionados.

This content will be seamlessly integrated into The Sporting News’ digital ecosystem, enriching the platform’s offerings and providing users with a comprehensive spectrum of informative and entertaining content.

45 million users

Catena Media VP North America Ryan Harper commented: “The Sporting News is one of the oldest names in sports publishing in the US and we’re delighted to have them as a core media partner.”

“Their close to 45 million unique users per month give us access to a large audience that will enable us to compete directly with some of the top sports publishing companies in the world.”

The Sporting News COO Shaun Koiner added: “No one is as passionate about quality sports content as The Sporting News is, which is why a partnership with Catena Media makes so much sense.

“From day one, our objectives have been aligned and we’re incredibly excited to see where this can take us, not only in the US but also as we look to expand internationally.”

The partnership aligns with Catena Media’s strategy to concentrate on the North American online sportsbook and casino affiliation market.

In Q1 2023, revenue in North America experienced a 2% decrease, amounting to €28.9m, constituting 83% of the total group revenue.

Earlier this year, Catena Media recently unveiled new financial goals, aiming for North American market revenue to reach $125m by 2025.

This projection indicates a compound annual organic growth of 12% from the present year.
