IGT has joined forces with Scientific Games and Brazilian company SAGA to bring innovation to the lottery landscape in the state of Minas Gerais.

The consortium has secured a concession agreement with the Minas Gerais State Lottery (LEMG) and is poised to operate an instant win and passive lottery in the state.

The Minas Gerais lottery sector was previously limited to Keno and a national draw game.

With the contract commencing on 9 June 2023, the consortium aims to leverage the unique strengths of each company to introduce new dimensions to lottery gaming.

IGT Global Solutions Corporation has operated some of the world’s largest lotteries and will use operational expertise to breathe new life into the stagnant Minas Gerais lottery scene.

Las Vegas-based Scientific Games, meanwhile, boasts 50 years of experience in lottery instant games, analytics, systems, and management services.

As part of the consortium, Scientific Games will supply the software and management system requirements, providing technological infrastructure to the new lottery venture.

Finally, SAGA Consultoria e Representações Comerciais e Empresariais S/A is the local partner that completes the consortium.

The presence of SAGA, with its intrinsic understanding of the local market and regulatory environment, will help the consortium navigate the particularities of the Brazilian lottery sector.

The 20-year agreement grants the consortium an exclusive licence to operate lottery games in Minas Gerais, a state of 21 million people where lottery is the only form of legalised iGaming.

Sports betting is also legal in the state via state-owned lottery operator Loteria Mineira.

The consortium’s licence includes instant games and a supporting instant ticket system, as well as passive lottery games.

Jay Gendron, IGT COO of global lottery, said: “This agreement enables us to expand IGT’s global leadership in lottery and build upon our operational expertise while creating additional opportunities in Brazil through the launch of printed instant tickets and related services.”

There is an option in the agreement for a 20-year renewal.

“Players in Minas Gerais can look forward to world-leading instant scratch game entertainment delivered through an advanced, highly secure gaming system that serves both retailers and street vendors,” said Scientific Games president of international Michael Conforti.
