Flutter Entertainment launches start-up schemes to tackle ESG challenges

Targeting tech start-ups
The Tech4Good Award offers a £10,000 grant to three technology start-ups, along with the opportunity to participate in a demo day to showcase their business to investors, technology experts and Flutter leaders.
Flutter said it is particularly interested in start-ups improving access and participation in sports for underrepresented or impoverished communities, improving overall health and well-being globally, offering sustainability solutions to tackle pressing environmental challenges, and addressing tech illiteracy in hard-to-reach communities.
Advancing safer gambling
The Play Well Challenge, conducted in partnership with the Responsible Gambling Council (RGC), is aimed at entrepreneurs and start-ups committed to creating a better customer experience and addressing responsible gambling challenges.
Start-ups participating in this challenge will have the opportunity to collaborate with Flutter and its portfolio of gambling brands, which include Sky Bet, Paddy Power, Betfair and FanDuel.
Additionally, selected start-ups for both programmes will gain access to workshops, masterclasses and networking opportunities aimed at supporting their growth and long-term success.
Supporting sustainability goals
Both programmes will support Flutter’s ESG strategy, which is called the Positive Impact Plan.
In addition, by 2030, Flutter hopes that 75% of its active online customers will make use of one or more of its Play Well tools, with the aim of more than 50% using one or more tools by 2026.
Flutter CIO Conor Lynch said: “The Flutter Tech4Good Award and Play Well Challenge align our expertise in technology with the ambitious targets set out within our Positive Impact Plan.
“As part of this, we want to utilise our global scale and in-house talent to support the innovative start-ups that are developing technology that enhances consumer protection and drives positive change in the communities in which we operate.”
RGC CEO Shelley White added: “RGC is proud to collaborate with Flutter on this important programme to minimise harms related to gambling.
“The Flutter & RGC Play Well Challenge has the ability to drive real change in responsible gambling, globally, and ultimately create a safer gambling experience for millions of people.”
