Malta-based slots start-up led by former Evolution executive goes live
A new game development company founded by former Evolution executive Carl Ejlertsson has marked its debut with the official launch of its slots portfolio.
Octoplay CEO Ejlertsson served as Evolution games director between December 2020 and October 2021.
The studio’s first three casino games, Pearly Shores, Heavy Anchor and Hot Harvest are built onto the company’s proprietary games server, and the start-up said it has already signed content deals with leading casino operators.
“Octoplay is laser-focused on producing ground-breaking content for regulated markets. Our simple philosophy is to be licensed in every possible jurisdiction on the planet. If a licence is available, we will get it as soon as we can,” Ejlertsson commented.
He added that Octoplay’s objective was to ensure that players are having a great time.
Octoplay currently holds a licence from both Malta and Romania.
“We don’t mind how far we have to go, or what features we have to develop, it’s just about going out there and delivering great, sustainable, fun,” he said.

Ejlertsson originally joined Red Tiger Gaming, which was purchased by Evolution alongside NetEnt in 2020, as an account director in August 2016 before taking on the role of business development director in September 2018.
Prior to his stint at Red Tiger, he spent more than three years at Betsson, where he held various roles after joining the business as a customer support agent in August 2013. He eventually departed as casino insight lead in October of 2016.
Ejlertsson is not the only iGaming veteran in the Octoplay leadership team; the start-up has made a number of hires in the run-up to its launch.
Octoplay has hired Nick Vuchev as commercial director and Martina Borg Stevens as legal and compliance director, as well as Nicola Vella as finance director.
Vuchev and Borg Stevens both worked with Ejlertsson at Red Tiger, while Vella previously served as CFO of Capricorn Capital Partners, a London-based private equity firm. Prior to that role, she held positions in finance at both NetEnt and Catena Media.
Octoplay’s initial games portfolio, available for demonstration on the Octoplay website, “has been met with considerable enthusiasm and a recent flurry of deals across the company’s target markets,” the company said.
