PointsBet launches short-form in-app video content to educate and entertain bettors

ASX-listed operator PointsBet will integrate the new PointsBet+ content hub into its sports betting app to deliver more proprietary content to its customers.
In addition to the live streaming options already offered by the app, the platform will now feature video clips directly focused on betting events from PointsBet programmes such as The Straight Line with Ryan Leaf.
The programme, hosted by former NFL quarterback Leaf, offers betting analysis and insights to viewers for NFL and college football matches each week, and is currently available on PointsBet’s social media pages including YouTube and Instagram. Now, the programming will be used by PointsBet to create 20-25 daily on-demand video clips offering insights into individual markets such as spread bets, same game parlays and player props, which will be available via custom feeds tailored to each customer’s preferences on PointsBet+.
Content will be created based on the sporting events occurring each day and will be featured on specific betting pages.
The platform will be updated daily with refreshed content tailored to individual betting types, PointsBet said, delivering information for core markets, player and game props and PointsBet’s proprietary bet type, Points Betting.
Points Betting allows players to bet, for example, on an over/under market and win more depending on how far over or under the actual result is. For example, when betting on an NFL quarterback to pass over 240 yards in length during a game, passing a total of 270 yards would return a greater prize than passing 250.“Sports betting and content go hand-in-hand, and by delivering key information right within our app, we’re setting a new standard for the industry,” said Liam Roecklein, SVP of content at PointsBet USA.
“Getting insights directly from sports figures like Ryan Leaf will be a gamechanger for bettors and help shape both how users wager on and consume sports. We aim to delight our customers by providing them with industry-leading live betting options like Lightning Bets along with the statistics and analysis necessary to make the best possible decisions.”Lightning Bets are PointsBet’s version of micro-betting, offering punters the chance to wager on events occurring within the next minute of a sports match.
Leaf added: “It’s exciting to be able to deliver clips from The Straight Line directly to sports fans via the PointsBet app. PointsBet continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible within the sports betting world by introducing a more analytical and perceptive way for sports fans to bet on games across all sports.”
The new service will likely aid PointsBet in positioning itself as “the home of in-play betting”, as the betting type continues to grow in importance for the operator. In its financial results for the third quarter of its 2022 financial year (three months ended 31 March 2022), in-play betting as a percentage of overall handle grew 22% year-on-year.
