Grosvenor Casino and Mecca Bingo operator Rank Group has promoted Jon Martin to the newly created role of chief operating officer (COO).
Currently, Martin is managing director for the group’s online division, Rank Interactive, which he has overseen since 2020.
He is expected to transition back to the UK from his current Gibraltar-based role this summer.
Prior to becoming MD of Rank Interactive, Martin held several roles at Rank Group, including strategy and finance director for digital, MD of international, and board director for Rank’s joint venture with Aspers Casino, Aspers Online.
Prior to joining Rank, he spent five years at William Hill culminating in the role of chief of staff to the CEO. Before Hills, Martin worked for three years in the consumer business department at Deloitte in London.
As COO, Martin will continue to have accountability for the strategy and performance of Rank Interactive, while also taking on overall responsibility for the development and delivery of cross-channel customer experience and service for the Grosvenor and Mecca brands.
His focus will be on using Rank’s proprietary technology to deliver “a unique and seamless cross-channel experience which best meets the needs of customers playing in Grosvenor and Mecca venues and online,” according to the operator.
A formal search process for a new MD of Rank Interactive has been initiated by the group, for someone capable of running Rank’s UK-facing digital business while based in Gibraltar.
“I am delighted that Jon will take on a broader role here at Rank, testament to the hard work and delivery of our continued success across the digital gaming market,” commented Rank CEO John O’Reilly.
“I have no doubt that Jon taking on these broader responsibilities will benefit Rank immensely,” he concluded.
Martin added: “I am excited about the prospect of delivering the next stage of Rank’s growth, focusing on a more seamless brand experience between our venues and digital offerings, whilst continuing to oversee our upward digital trajectory.
“A key priority will be working more closely with our venues’ management teams, while utilising our proprietary technology to deliver a more compelling customer experience for existing and new cross-channel customers.”
In its latest financial report, covering the first three months of 2023, Rank’s group net gaming revenue grew 13% year-on-year to £174.4m.
Of the total, £112.7m came from its UK land-based operations and £52.5m from its Interactive division, which operates in both Spain and the UK.
