  • Flutter Entertainment nets ex-Amazon and McDonald’s hotshot as non-executive director

Flutter Entertainment has appointed Fortune 500 hotshot Atif Rafiq to its newly formed Risk and Sustainability Committee following an international recruitment process.

Rafiq arrives at the FTSE 100 operator with quite the reputation, having carved out a career as a digital innovator with influential firms including Yahoo, Amazon, McDonald’s and Volvo.

The Chicago native also has igaming sector experience, having held the position of president of customers, commercial and growth at MGM Resorts between May 2019 and January 2021.

Rafiq will sit on Flutter’s new-look Risk and Sustainability Committee – formerly the Risk Committee – which has been tweaked to focus on the management of material risks. The committee will also have full oversight of the operator’s ESG strategy going forwards.

Flutter chairman Gary McGann said: “The Risk and Sustainability Committee strengthens our governance arrangements for oversight of sustainability matters on behalf of the board, while continuing to monitor material risks that impact our reputation.

“Following an international search as part of our ongoing board renewal process, I am delighted to welcome Atif as a non-executive director.

“He brings an extensive wealth of digital, innovation and technology-led transformation experience to the board.

“Atif’s appointment is in line with our board renewal programme having regard to the scale, geographic breadth and growth of the business,” he added.

Rafiq also holds a non-executive director position at KINS Technology Group.

Flutter’s share price closed for the week at £110 per share on the London Stock Exchange.
