XLMedia has hired Karen Tyrrell as its new chief people and operations officer, effective immediately.

Tyrrell arrives at the affiliate having held a range of senior leadership roles across the iGaming sector, most recently as interim chief people officer of Flutter Entertainment’s UK & Ireland division.

Tyrrell’s first position at Flutter was MD of transformation for UK & Ireland after the FTSE 100 company acquired Sky Betting & Gaming (SBG) in 2020.

Indeed, the bulk of her career was spent at SBG during a 13-year spell across five different job roles, the most senior of which was as MD of people and culture between 2018 and 2020.

Prior to iGaming, Tyrrell worked in the hospitality sector for seven years in various business and finance roles for the Hilton hotel chain.

XLMedia said Tyrrell has supported her previous companies in conducting operational reviews, M&A integrations and strategy implementation.

Karen Tyrrell: “In my career, I’ve had the fortunate opportunity to guide businesses during times of immense growth and industry evolution and I look forward to bringing that experience to the group.”

She has also led multiple award-winning people-centric programmes focused on workforce stability and engagement, according to the firm.

XLMedia CEO David King said: “We are delighted to welcome Karen to XLMedia and believe her experience working with high performing teams will be a critical part of supporting our next phase of growth.”

Publishing veteran King joined the affiliate in May following the resignation of former CEO Stuart Simms. He has wasted no time in assembling his own senior management team.

Tyrrell added: “In my career, I’ve had the fortunate opportunity to guide businesses during times of immense growth and industry evolution and I look forward to bringing that experience to the group.”
